Earlier in the month, we made call asking our members to nominate any book written by an African and published in Africa that they believe  is just awesome enough to star in our Indigenous  Books of the Month. We added that every month, five books written by Africans and published in Africa will star as LiteraNation’s Indigenous  Books of the Month and books nominated each month will go into draw and winners will be announced by us.

UNIZIK STUDENT WINS THE SLAM HEROES YOUTH AWARD 2016

Izunna I. Okafor, a 300 level student of Unizik has bagged the SLAM Youth Hero Award 2016 edition as the Innovative Youth of The Year.

The 22-year-old innovative youth who is also an awards-winning Young Nigerian Writer was declared the winner of this year’s edition of this award at the Award Dinner party which took place yesterday at the Golphins Hotels and Suits Awka, on the 10th of December 2016.
In the words of the Award coordinator Mrs. Ciao, “Izunna has proved his worth and his great achievements speak more of his merit for this great award and recognition”

The award was processed from  nominizunna-i-okaforations, followed by interviews and assessment which primarily formed the basis for the Judge’s decision.

Izunna Okafor is Anambra born young writer who hails from the Nnewi South L.G.A of the state and has played and continues to great roles in shaping the world through his creative writing. He has authored and published various books both in soft and hard copies, and is also an Igbo activist who has  taken the Gospel of the Igbo language and the needs for its sustenance, to every nooks and crannies around the world through his writing.

He has also received other various awards for his professionalism in the writing field, and is the first person to win the Indigenous Writer of The in the Nigerian Writers Award. He’s also currently in the nominee list of the 2016 Future Award Africa and will also be awarded the Youth Writer of the Year 2016 by the Nigeria Heritage Icon Award on the 16th December.

“I believe, this will go a long way in appreciating and rewarding your great works as well as spur up the spirit of more greater achievement in you” said Ciao as she presents the Golding award to Izunna.

Some other Young and vibrant achievers across the Africa continent who have been making difference and imparts in their various areas of endeavour, were also awarded at the great event.

The SLAM youth Hero award is and international award and a part of the SLAM initiatives aimed at identifying and rewarding the young people with difference and who have been making the African continent proud with their God-given potentials and creative minds.
This year  marks the third edition of the great initiative which started in the year 2011, and takes place every two years intervalizunna-okafor-photo

IZUNNA OKAFOR NOMINATED FOR THE FUTURE AWARD AFRICA 2016

An Anambra born Young Nigerian Writer, Izunna I. Okafor who is also a 300 level student of Unizik has been nominated for the 2016 edition of The Future Award Africa.

In the nominee list which recently dropped in the premium times and other websites and blogs across the world; Izunna Okafor as well as other young Nigerians who have been making the country and the African continent proud in various capacities were seen to be among the show, including Kenechi Iheanacho, Yemi Alade, Falz, Tekno among others.

In the word of Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, the Chairman, Central Working Committee, The Future Awards Africa; “It goes without saying that we have had one of the most difficult years in our history. The days are bleak. But the stories of these nominees, and their work help me remember that through the concrete roses will grow. We can still bloom. It is not over!,”

The Anambra born Young writer Izunna Okafor  is a quintessential literary figure and a great achiever who has been shaping and making great imparts in the world through his writing and offering of other selfless educational service to the humanity.
He has written and published various books, (including novels, articles, poems and short stories) both in the hard and soft copies, nationally and internationally.izunna-i-okaforizunna-okafor-photo

He is also an Igbo activist who has written and published books and articles in the Igbo Language and has taken the gospel of the Igbo Language and the need for its sustenance to every nooks and crannies across the world through his writing.
Izunna who is also a 300 level student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has won and been nominated for various national and international awards including the Nigerian Writers Award which he is the first person to ever win the Indigenous Writer of the year in Nigeria, plus the host of other landmarks achievements and prestigious awards.
This December alone, he won the Outstanding Youth of the Year 2016 in Anambra state, won the SLAM Hero Youth International Award/Innovative Youth of the Year 2016 as well as the Youth Writer of the Year 2016 by the Nigeria Heritage Icon Award.
Humbly, Izunna has also been making glamorous contributions in the educational field of life towards enduring a swift and perpetual eradication of illiteracy among the populace by donating books to schools, libraries and other institutions of learning and by periodic offering of mini scholarships and logistics to some indigent students.

The Future Award Africa is the Africa’s Biggest Youth Award which is given by The Future Project (TFP), a social enterprise which aims to celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration.
In 21 categories the Future awards shows off Nigerians who have excelled in their fields of endeavor in 2016.
The award ceremony is set to hold on December 18 in Lagos.
